A training on making and using eco-friendly oven was held at the house of farmer Rozina Begum of Joynagar village in Kashimari union of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira arranged by Joynagar Krishi Nari Sangathan and supported by BARCIK. 19 women from some villages participated in the training and learnt the making method and use of environment friendly oven practically.
The facilitator of training Rozina Begum said, ‘This oven is healthy. It is very useful for our environment. It has many qualities. using this oven ensures less ink and smokes in the house. It also requires less heat and can be ignited with any fuel. This oven is also very easy to make. Anyone who sees its making will be able to make it by themselves.’
Rozina Begum went on saying, ‘In the past I used ordinary ovens and faced various problems. Besides, I have a little allergy problem. Therefore, cooking in a normal oven it caused me more sneezing and coughing, dizziness, burning of hands and occasional heat, and blackening of the room.’ She said, ‘I have been using the environment friendly oven since the day I came to know about its qualities. Today most of women in our villages use environment friendly oven to avoid health risks.’
Participating in the training farmer Suma, Shobha Rani, Morzinara said, ‘We now use eco-friendly ovens almost at home. We received a training on eco-friendly oven making with the help of BARCIK in 2016. Since then we have encouraged and taught many women in our areas to make and use this eco-friendly oven. Besides, some other organizations also provide support in making this type of ovens.’
The participants in the training also mentioned that they asked help from BARCIK so that they could themselves learn the technique of making eco-friendly oven and the organization has provided such support to them. According to them, along with the training, oven materials have been provided to 10 families so far.’
