BARCIK has been nominated for the National Environment Medal-2021 as an organization for its special contribution in environmental protection and development. BARCIK has been nominated as an institution for the award in the environmental education and publicity category.
The decision has made today at meeting held at the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change chaired by the state minister Md. Shahab Uddin.
Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, Secretary, Mostafa Kamal, senior secretary of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources Mahbub Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Ministry (Environment), Moniruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Environment Abdul Hamid and Chief Forest Conservator Amir Hossein Chowdhury and representatives of various ministries and agencies were present as members of the committee.
Expressing the feeling of being nominated for the National Environment Medal-2021, Sukanta Sen, Executive Director of BARCIK, said, “It is a great pleasure to be nominated for such an award. Our responsibility to protect the environment has increased.” He went on saying, ‘this recognition today is due to hard work, substantial initiative and sincerity of the community people and staffs of BARCIK. I would like to thank and congratulate them all. The national recognition has come today due to their relentless efforts and hard work to protect the environment.
It is to mention that, the inventor of the extinct local rice variety Md. Yousuf Molla of Tanore upazila of Rajshahi had been awarded the National Environment Medal in 2013 working together with BARCIK to protect the environment.
