BARCIK observes World Environment day

BARCIK observes world environment day with different activities and programs organized in its different working areas. Bearing the theme of world environment day which reads ‘Only one Earth: Living sustainably in Harmony with Nature’ the organizations in its working areas arranged discussions, rallies, seminars, art competitions, uncultivated food plants fairs, fruits and food fairs, tree plantation and distribution of tree samplings to the communities etc., to mark the day.

In those activities different professionals and persons which include community people, farmers, youths, students, teachers, journalists, members of civil society, representatives of national and local administration etc. These people attending in those programs congratulate BARCIK for being rewarded the Environment Award-2021 and shared their views and concerns to protect the environment and our surroundings.

Attending as chief guest of the program arranged to mark the environment day the district commissioner (DC) of Netrakona Anjana Khan Mojlish said, ‘We should act accordingly to let the element of nature to live in their own way. We should take actions to protect the wetlands, Rivers, forest, the Haor from getting polluted and disappeared.’ ‘We the humans have done such destructive activities which were responsible for the extinction of many wild life in the nature’ she added. She further said, ‘When we cut the hill we do harm to ourselves. When we destroy forest and hill we bring misfortune for ourselves. Therefore, we should realize to let the element of nature grow naturally.’

In the meantime, participating in a seminar arranged to mark the environment day the Upazilla Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shymanagar in Satkhira Mukter hossein said, ‘Plastic is the enemy of the environment, We should stop using plastic to protect the environment. We should use bags made from jute which get easily disposed in the soil. But the plastic produces lot of wastes which never get disposed in the soil and create negative impact on the environment.

In an event arranged to discuss the importance of environment friendly oven on world environment day a women from Rajshahi named Gorfun Nesa said, ‘Environment friendly oven is good for the environment and our health. In order to contribute in ensuring environmental sustainability we the 430 households in our village use environment friendly ovens and we try to transfer the technology to other village as well.

On the other hand, in a discussion arranged to mark the world environment day a teacher named Jubayer Hossain Khan from Manikgonj said, ‘There is a close relationship between the environment and people. The environment is considered to be the source of biodiversity. If the environment is unfavorable then life of other plants and animals including human beings will not develop. Nature will give us back whatever we do with nature and the environment. He went on saying ‘Population growth, deforestation, misuse of natural resources, overuse of fertilizers and pesticides, industrial wastes, toxic fumes from cars, use of plastics all are harmful for environment.’
