Every life forms depend on each other. Every one of them are important and has a significant role. These life forms share intricate relationship with each other as well. Speakers said on a meeting held at the village of Bri-Kaliakair Nayapara in Singair upazila of Manikganj district on the topic of ‘Our role in identifying and conserving biodiversity’. The event was organized by Bri-Kaliakair Nayapara Krishak Krishani Sangathan in association with BARCIK.
The participants of the discussion inspecting a small piece of and nearby have been able to identify different types of plants in those fallow land and highlighted the qualities of each plant. However, the discussion was chaired by Ramela Begum, vice-president of the organization. Students Jisan Ahmed, Aliraj, other members of the organization including BARCIK officials Shimul Kumar Biswas and Sharmin Akter were present in the discussion and shared their views.
Gazi Wazed Alam Labu said, ‘Due to modern development and global climate change, the biodiversity around us is shrinking. As biodiversity shrinks, so does the environment for human survival. Everyone has an equal responsibility to protect biodiversity in order to create a conducive environment for human survival. We have to be careful in conserving biodiversity while respecting all life forms. ‘Student Jisan Ahmed said,’ human is not only the one life in the nature. There are also billions of lives on earth that help humans in one or another way. We have to create an environment for the survival of every living thing.’
Ramela Begum said, ‘Every life in nature has a different significance. Various types of plants grow in the fallow lands around us. We think of these are weeds. In fact, there is no such thing as a weed in the nature. All plants benefit humans. There are numerous organisms, both above and below the ground, which maintain the balance of the environment. But we are destroying those lives by applying excessive chemical fertilizers.’
Earlier, while presenting the keynote paper BARCIK official Shimul Kumar Biswas highlighted the importance of International Biodiversity Day and said, ‘every living thing in nature benefits people and the environment through an interdependent relationship.’ It is because of this interdependent relationship that the world survives. Therefore, we need to be respectful of the interdependent life, diverse life and nature.
It is to mention that the participants visited a fallow land and identified different 46 uncultivated food plants such as Khaskhsa, Dumra, Ajatakchu, Keshurja, Hatishura, Bisjaran, Dhemkishak, Chhitki, Venna, Kanaidga, Pipal, Teka Kharkun, Dudh Kachu, Bhati, Bilai Echra, Gima, Nubak. , Cherry, gaicha, kaitura, baitha, oltakambal, kala kachu, nakful, dandakols, berati, tit brinjal, red bisakatali, white flower, kalmi, bara kalmi, kheta shak, kharkun, gandhabadail, netapeta shak, jal hechi, butuni Hechi, flower hechi, agra, ghaopata, telakucha leaves, vadail, chinigura, kantakhiura. The participant vow to preserve all these plants.
